Grand Rapids, Mich. - May 16 - Meijer has opened its first store that has been certified as a LEED building (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) by the U.S. Green Building Council, a nonprofit organization that uses the certification process to help companies establish goals and measure or monitor progress.
According to the company, the store was built on top of a former landfill in Allen Park, Mich., and includes features that are environmentally friendly.
